Hi I'm Jess...

a self-taught textile artist from the beautiful county of Somerset, UK.

 

My journey with textiles began after the birth of my second child, when I discovered sewing as a way to slow down, switch off and reconnect with my creativity. What started with a sewing machine and a little experimentation has grown into Dandelion & Peacock, where I now create textile art inspired by the natural world around me.

I’m particularly drawn to the plants, insects and wildlife of the British countryside, as well as old botanical illustrations, natural history and folklore. I love combining fabric, colour and stitch with techniques including raw-edge appliqué, free-motion embroidery, hand stitching and mixed media to create pieces with texture, character and a sense of story.

Alongside my original artwork, I create Raw Edge Appliqué Stitch Kits and digital patterns, designed to encourage others to experiment with fabric and stitch and make the designs their own. I use a mixture of new and repurposed textiles, giving materials a new purpose wherever I can.

I’m proud to have been selected as an Aurifil Artisan for both 2025 and 2026, an opportunity that allows me to explore my textile art through Aurifil’s beautiful range of threads and share my work and creative process with a wider stitching community.

My work continues to evolve, from small stitched pieces and appliqué designs to more experimental mixed-media textile artwork, always with nature at its heart.

For me, creating with fabric and thread is about slowing down, noticing the details and giving yourself the freedom to be creative. I hope my work inspires you to do the same.
